About

The Bridgeport Public Library is one of the original branches of the Martins Ferry Public Library. Founded in 1937, the library occupied the space at 342 Main Street, servicing the community of Bridgeport and the surrounding area. After it became clear that several of the branch library facilities required a much needed modernization, Mr. Storck, the former director since 1975, obtained a grant to partially fund the Victoria Read Library in Flushing in 1985, and applied for another grant to partially fund a new Bridgeport Library. Mr. Storck received the final grant awarded to build new libraries. Due to budget cuts, the Federal Government has not restored that form of funding to this date.
