Literary societies and library associations were active in Bement's early years. In 1866, an association was formed, with $134 being available for the purchase of books.The Bement Literary and Library Association was incorporated in 1877. The Bement Woman's Club members served as librarians and circulated books. A tax proposal for a free township library carried in1936. In 1989 the library moved into a new 3800 square foot library. In 1995 the library became a district library which serves not only Bement Township but also the Ivesdale portion of our school district.
