The Bayonne Public Library is a magnificent building built in the Beaux-Art and Classical Revival styles complete with Ionic and Doric columns, and richly ornamented architectural details.
The Bayonne Public Library, incorporated in 1890, moved into the present Carnegie-funded building at 697 Avenue C in 1904.
In 1989 it was officially rededicated as The Free Public Library & Cultural Center of Bayonne. The Mary O'Connor Gallery of the library presents performing and visual arts and interactive events to its community. Various meetings and cultural programs are held in the basement of the library building.
