History :

The library began as the 'Book Nook' and was set up in the fire station meeting room. It soon became clear that there was a need to make this a permanent and official library. The city council passed an ordinance in November of 1991 creating the Aurora Public Library. The library continued to make its home at the fire station until July of 2006 when it moved to the new Comet Center building. The library was staffed by volunteers in the beginning. In 1999, thanks to state funds and the Enrich Iowa program, the library board hired their first director. The library celebrated its 15 year anniversary in November 2006.
